I REALLY hate when the federal government gets involved in this crap but it’s 100% to be expected, as more and more people look to the government to ‘take care of them!’ So many Americans have discarded the ethos that we ‘do for ourselves’ and embrace rugged individualism. Instead, they (think) they want the government to take care of everything and somehow flatten out the playing field; rather than only existing to to intervene when individuals, local communities and states can’t figure it out. This type of legislation is the fault and the result of EVERY American (including those that vape) that favors big government, cradle to grave governmental support and the so-called nanny-state!
That said, I don’t think it’s as bad as it could be AND I can see a silver lining.... it does NOT prohibit the transport of e-cigarettes by other carriers and it’s likely to be a benefit to brick and mortar vape shops. UPS, FedEx and other shippers are not effected and in many cases they can be a cheaper shipping option. I know almost all my vaping gear (that I didn’t get at a B&M store) comes with UPS because the USPS doesn’t deliver to lots of rural communities like mine. As to the age-verification requirement... that DOES directly target underage use of vaping products - like MY kids, who I don’t want smoking OR vaping! Sure, it’s an inconvenience but what’s wrong with a little inconvenience? It goes back to the changed American thought process - we’ve become so spoiled that we think we NEED everything to be more and more convenient; instead of embracing a little inconvenience to benefit others.
Most of these inconvenient rules will likely drive vaping consumers (and their business) to B&M stores over all the online retailers that currently dominate the vape market. Yes, this will cause an increase in prices slightly BUT the silver lining is that it may help make B&M stores competitive; which, in turn, will create local jobs and keep more money in local communities. For me, this is a bigger issue of online businesses robbing communities of local small businesses, local jobs and keeping money in the communities. This move just doesn’t trouble EXCEPT that I don’t like the government creating ANY new regulation that isn’t ABSOLUTELY necessary; and this arena/issue does not come even close to clearing that bar.
