In view of the fact that there have always been doubts about whether e-cigarettes can help quit smoking. The report cited a controlled smoking cessation trial in the United Kingdom and concluded that the smoking cessation rate of smokers who switched to e-cigarettes reached 18% within one year, which was nearly double the nicotine replacement method (9.9%). A New Zealand trial also found that not only the use of e-cigarettes alone will help quit smoking, e-cigarettes may also enhance the effect of existing smoking cessation aids.
In addition to scientific research conclusions, the report also refers to many actual survey data. A survey pointed out that cigarette sales in the United States have been declining at a rate of 2%-3% per year for many years; after e-cigarettes became popular, cigarette sales have declined even faster. On the contrary, when the sales of e-cigarettes fell due to the policy, the sales of cigarettes began to recover.
This means that the previous US policies aimed at restricting the use of e-cigarettes inadvertently led to an increase in cigarette smoking. If the United States imposes the same tax rate on e-cigarettes as cigarettes nationwide, it may prevent 2.75 million smokers from quitting within 10 years.
