The governor of New York State announced an emergency executive order banning the sale of flavored electronic cigarettes other than tobacco and menthol in the state.
New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo said: "We will ban all flavored e-cigarettes. Except for tobacco flavor and menthol, 68% of users use flavored e-cigarettes. Flavored e-cigarettes are very important for young people. Attraction, the flavored e-cigarettes are named'Bubble Hall' and'Marshmallow', etc. This is obviously aimed at young people."
"Data in the past four years shows that the proportion of high school students using e-cigarettes has increased by 160%, and 40% of 12th grade students are smoking e-cigarettes. E-cigarettes contain nicotine and are very addictive. Next year, we will introduce legislation to prohibit E-cigarette advertisements for young people. The law clearly stipulates that the sale of cigarettes to persons under 18 years of age is prohibited. We will severely crack down on this. Starting from November 13 this year, the 18-year-old limit will be raised to 21 years old."
At present, nearly 500 cases of respiratory diseases related to e-cigarettes have been found in the United States, causing at least 6 deaths, but the specific cause of death has not yet been investigated.
In June of this year, San Francisco became the first American city to ban the sale of e-cigarettes. On September 4, Michigan announced that it would ban the sale of flavored e-cigarettes.
