Blue Hole New Consumer Report, January 15 news, according to foreign reports, a new report from the American Consumer Institute (ACI) highlights the dangers of over-regulation of e-cigarettes and e-cigarette products.
The report, co-authored by Steve Pociask and Liam Sigaud, is titled "How Regulations Harm Public Health: A Review of E-Cigarette Risks and Benefits and Evidence of Policy Mistakes" , which examines the empirical evidence surrounding the risks and benefits of e-cigarette use by consumers compared to the use of combustible tobacco products.
The report found:
E-cigarettes and vaping products, while not completely safe, are much safer than smoking — an estimated 95% safe;
Research has also shown that these products are twice as effective at getting smokers to quit than other nicotine-based cessation treatments;
Over-regulation of e-cigarettes and e-cigarettes not only ignores the general scientific consensus on health risks, but also discourages smokers from switching to safer alternatives and pushes e-cigarette users back into the market;
As a result, over-regulation of these proven harm reduction products will have serious health consequences for the millions of American consumers who smoke.
"The overwhelming empirical research is clear that federal, state and local governments are in the wrong pursuit of eliminating safer options for smokers," a release said.
"This report provides much-needed clarification on an issue of enormous public health importance. As the authors point out, through rigorous research, the U.S. can better chart a responsible course and encourage smokers to find safer alternatives. And quit smoking while protecting our young people from tobacco products."
