Canadian Electronic Cigarette Association: E-cigarettes are effective for smoking cessation

Blue hole new consumption report, news on February 10, according to foreign reports, over the years, the arguments against electronic cigarettes have changed. First, there is widespread debate about whether e-cigarettes are indeed less harmful than smoking. As science advances, e-cigarettes are widely regarded as a less harmful alternative to smoking.

For the past seven years, Public Health England has held that vaping is unlikely to exceed 5% of the harms of smoking.

As e-cigarettes are considered a harm reduction product, the target discussion has shifted and the debate on the efficacy of e-cigarettes has begun. Again, science has found that e-cigarettes are the most effective tool for quitting smoking.

The international review, produced by Cochrane, a global network of independent researchers, reviewed the top research on the efficacy of e-cigarettes. The review found that smokers who used e-cigarettes to quit are more likely to be successful. It was found that e-cigarettes were 70% more effective than any other nicotine replacement therapy. Many experts say they believe the Cochrane review should end the debate on the effectiveness of e-cigarettes for smoking cessation.

Additionally, Public Health England issued a press release stating that e-cigarettes are superior to all other nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) products. In 2019 and 2020, e-cigarettes had a smoking cessation success rate of between 59.7% and 74% when used in conjunction with smoking cessation services, the release said, with an estimated 50,000 smokers who quit using e-cigarettes who would otherwise continue to smoke .

While studies have shown that e-cigarettes are effective for smoking cessation, other studies have found the opposite. The findings continue to fuel the debate and add to the confusion among smokers.

A 2019 PATH study found that e-cigarettes were less effective than NRT products, which drew media attention.

Responding to the study, Professor John Britton, Emeritus Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Nottingham, said: "The findings of this observational study of smoking cessation and e-cigarette use in the US are fundamentally flawed, with confounding by severity, with the most severe (most Addicted) smokers who have tried and failed in the past to quit using NRT or other treatments, or who have refused to try to quit in the past and then tried e-cigarettes. This may be why they conflict with the results of a meta-analysis of multiple well-designed clinical trials demonstrating that e-cigarettes are effective smoking cessation aids.

“Proponents of restrictive vaping regulation have a history of picking up science in an attempt to undermine the value of vaping as a harm reduction tool for smokers and society. The promotion of this specific study is no exception. In order to make any definitive decision, one must Review all the research to date. This is also how political leaders and public health must view vaping policy and regulation," said Darryl Tempest, CVA Council's Committee on Government Relations.

"The conversation shouldn't be about whether e-cigarettes are more effective than NRT, but should focus on how to support smokers trying to quit, and other arguments are irresponsible," Tempest said.

Smoking remains the leading cause of death in the world. Sending a clear message to smokers that e-cigarettes are less harmful and will save lives.
