The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority of Singapore and the Health Sciences Authority issued a joint statement saying that 3,200 e-cigarettes and more than 17,000 related parts were found in three inbound vehicles from Malaysia this month, with a total value of more than 130,000 Singapore dollars ( ≈ RMB 634,907).
According to the authorities, in an inspection on the 9th, after the officers at the Tuas checkpoint found the vehicle involved, they instructed the other party to get off the car and cooperate with the inspection. The inspectors then found smuggled goods in Lorry.
On the 13th, Tuas Checkpoint officers found a black garbage bag covered by a bed in the back seat of a lorry, and found 3,200 electronic cigarettes and 6,000 related parts from the garbage bag.
On the same day, officers at Woodlands Checkpoint found several bundles of black garbage bags containing 2,700 e-cigarette-related parts under the driver's seat and at the top left of the rear of another lorry.
Four Malaysian men, aged 27 to 52, are currently cooperating with authorities in their investigation.
Since April 1, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority has cracked seven smuggling cases involving e-cigarettes and related parts.
Two Malaysian men involved in one of the cases were sentenced to a week's detention and a $1,500 fine on the 12th of last month.
