Tempe, Arizona, is considering letting retailers buy licenses to sell tobacco, including e-cigarettes.
According to the Frontera Desk, a council committee proposal calls for a citywide registration of businesses that sell tobacco and creates a process to revoke the licenses of retailers who repeatedly sell tobacco to minors.
It also proposes raising the age to buy tobacco products to 21. Federal law already prohibits the purchase of tobacco products to anyone under the age of 21, but Arizona has no similar state law.
Tempe will hold two community meetings and an online survey in March before the city council will take up the issue in April or May.
