FEELM, a provider of e-cigarette closure system solutions, and e-cigarette brand RELX (RELX) have joined forces to launch the UK e-cigarette industry's first full-chain recycling program for single-use devices.
The initiative seeks to address growing consumer concerns about the environmental impact of single-use products being thrown away and those products ending up in landfills.
Material Focus, an independent non-profit, estimates that 1.3 million disposable vaping devices are discarded in the UK every week, and after more than a year, these devices contain enough lithium to power 1,200 electric cars.
In addition, according to market research by Opinium, the UK buys around 168 million disposable e-cigarettes every year, half of which are thrown away with the general waste rather than being thrown in the waste electrical recycling bin or returned to retailers.
In this new initiative, SMOORE’s flagship brand FEELM will partner with disposable e-cigarette supplier RELX to implement a sustainable development strategy that will benefit their business partners, customers and the wider community.
The initiative involves household collection systems, transparent recycling processes and retailer partnerships to make participation as easy as possible for consumers.
Consumers can mail used e-cigarettes to FEELM via a prepaid postage label downloaded online or by visiting one of our retail partners. The home collection system simplifies the recycling process and makes it more accessible to a wider audience.
To encourage consumer participation in recycling programs, the FEELM program introduces an incentive mechanism to promote consumer participation. For every 10 used devices returned, RELX will provide a brand new RELX Magic Go disposable e-cigarette with FEELM Max technology.
By fostering a recycling mindset and enhancing recycling education, the company aims to create a more environmentally conscious community that actively engages in sustainable practices.
FEELM and RELX hope that by providing comprehensive and convenient recycling methods, end users' awareness of environmental protection will be raised, trust in the recycling system will be inspired, and consumers will be encouraged to do their part to protect the environment.
