The Cook County Commissioner of Illinois has approved a ban on the sale of flavored tobacco products in suburban Cook County. Cook County is the largest county in Illinois with 134 municipalities, of which Chicago is the best known.
According to Audacy, the ban on sales of flavored tobacco products applies to all vaping products, including menthol flavors, following a unanimous vote.
Under the statute, any of Unincorporated Cook’s 42 licensed tobacco retailers could reportedly face a $250 fine the first time they are caught selling flavored e-cigarettes.
"Our statutory powers apply only to unincorporated Cooke. Those businesses located in unincorporated Cooke will be affected," said Cook County Council President Tony Preckwinkle. "When we have this kind of legislation, that's where it applies. Local municipalities can make their own legislation if they want to."
