According to the Dhaka Tribune, Mustafa Kamal, Bangladesh's finance minister, has proposed a sharp hike in import duties on e-cigarettes and their components in his proposed budget for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
Import duties on e-cigarettes will increase from 5% to 25%, and duties on e-cigarette components will increase by 100%. Previously, there were no import duties on components for e-cigarettes.
The minister also proposed an additional duty of 150% on liquid nicotine and transdermal nicotine.
The proposed measures aim to increase import duties and increase the cost of importing e-cigarettes and related components in order to regulate their use and reduce their prevalence.
