According to the Lithuanian media lrytas.lt, on June 29, the Lithuanian government’s proposed amendment to the Law on the Control of Tobacco, Tobacco Products and Related Products was supported by 63 MPs, 2 opposed, and 5 abstained. Final confirmation.
The amendment, which seeks to ban flavored vaping products, is scheduled to take effect on May 1 next year.
MP Iva Kačinskaitė-Urbonienė, who disagreed with the amendment, argued that it was an inappropriate measure and that such bans do not address children's health issues.
Another MP, Aurelijus Veryga, disagrees. He believes that manufacturers are well aware that the flavoring additives in e-cigarettes will attract consumers, and the legal prohibition of adding flavoring agents is logical and in line with EU law.
Councilor Vytautas Bakas expressed dissatisfaction with the effective date of the amendment. He believes that the effective date should be brought forward to November 1 this year.
Antanas Maturas, chairman of the Congressional Committee on Health Affairs, cautioned against doubting any ill intentions of the amendment and confirmed that early entry into force of the amendment is also possible.
