Why does the Indian government think e-cigarettes are harmful?

Why does the government think e-cigarettes are harmful? The Minister of Health and Family Welfare will answer:

(A) Does the government know that e-cigarettes have been popularized in the country? If popularized, does it know the health hazards?

(B) Has the All India Institute of Medical Sciences issued a warning about the harmful effects of e-cigarettes?

(C) If yes, what are the preventive measures taken by the government?

(D) Is the lack of awareness of e-cigarettes the main reason for its growing popularity in the country?

(E) If yes, has the government taken measures to increase the awareness of e-cigarettes among the domestic people?

These are the questions asked by MPs to the Minister of Health and Family Welfare Ashwini Kumar Choubey today. She replied that the All India Institute of Medical Sciences has not issued any official warnings about the harmful effects of e-cigarettes.

In order to justify the ban on e-cigarettes, she said in her reply: “According to a report of the World Health Organization, the Electronic Nicotine Delivery System (ENDS) (also known as cigarettes) heats a solution to produce a gas. Sprays, which often contain flavoring agents usually dissolved in propylene glycol or/and glycerin. ENDS aerosols contain nicotine, which is an addictive component of tobacco products. In addition to dependence, nicotine may also be harmful during pregnancy. The development of the fetus is adversely affected and may lead to cardiovascular disease.

The WHO report also said that although nicotine itself is not a carcinogen, it may act as a "tumor promoter" and seems to be involved in the biological research of malignant diseases and neurodegenerative diseases. Nicotine exposure in fetuses and adolescents may have long-term effects on brain development and may lead to learning and anxiety disorders. The evidence is sufficient to warn children, adolescents, pregnant women and women of childbearing age not to use electronic nicotine delivery systems and nicotine. "

If we as a society and a country care about our people, all types of cigarettes should be banned. According to the minister’s reply, the only reason for banning the use of this product is the harmful effects of nicotine. If so, why not ban the use of tobacco cigarettes? Obviously, e-cigarettes pose a threat to local cigarette manufacturers, some of which are close to the adjudication agency.
