According to news from northumberlandgazette on September 6, trading standards officers from the Public Protection Service of Northumberland County Council seized a large number of imported electronic cigarette devices during a routine inspection in the southeast of the county. Product names include Hatati Pro Max 4000, Elux 2500 and Prime Bars.

None of the seized devices are registered with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and therefore cannot be legally sold in the UK. Some devices failed to comply with UK safety regulations, had a capacity six times greater than allowed, contained lithium batteries, or did not adequately label their products.

Cabinet member Gordon Stewart MP said: "Our Trading Standards team is working hard to get these illegal products off the shelves and ensure any risk they pose is removed."

“All of our local businesses selling e-cigarettes should understand the importance of playing their part in complying with their legal obligations. We urge businesses to inspect their stock, remove any non-compliant products from their shelves and return them to their suppliers.”
