According to a report by The Sun on November 8, the Irish government plans to legislate a ban on the sale of e-cigarettes to minors under the age of 18 before Christmas. The bill is expected to move through the fourth stage of Congress before being handed over to President Michael D. Higgins to be formally signed into law.
The bill stipulates that any store found to be selling e-cigarettes to minors will be fined up to 4,000 euros or sentenced to six months in prison.
In addition, the bill will ban e-cigarette advertising within 200 meters of schools and on public transportation.
Ireland's Health Minister Stephen Donnelly has said the new law will come into effect before Christmas. He also plans to introduce a second piece of legislation that would create a blanket ban on disposable e-cigarettes for all ages.
