According to Irish media Breakingnews, the Irish government announced that it will ban the sale of any nicotine inhalation (e-cigarette) products to minors under the age of 18 starting from December 22. From now on, selling e-cigarettes to minors will be illegal and punishable by a fine of up to 4,000 euros or a prison sentence of up to 6 months.
Irish Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said he was committed to enacting this into law before Christmas and he thanked everyone who supported the passage of the Public Health (Tobacco Products and Nicotine Inhalation Products) Bill.
“In 2024, I will begin to implement the remaining measures of the law (such as advertising peripherals, licensing systems and vending machines, etc.), and we will review the results of public consultation on further regulation of e-cigarettes and some tobacco control proposals.” He said.
Hildegarde Naughton, Ireland’s Minister for Public Health, Welfare and National Drug Strategy, added:
“I look forward to the outcome of our public consultation on options for further regulation of these products, particularly regarding flavor and packaging.”
