According to leparisien reports on March 21, the French Parliament reached an agreement on Thursday (March 21) to ban disposable e-cigarettes popular among young people. The ban is expected to take effect at the end of September 2024.
The bipartisan bill introduced by Congresswoman Francesca Pasquini passed the Senate unanimously in early February, having previously passed the Assembly in December. On Thursday (March 21), the Joint Committee (CMP) composed of members of the two houses of Congress reached a consensus. The government immediately announced its decision to notify the European Commission, which has six months to validate the legislation.
Health Minister Catherine Vautrin expressed support for the bill, highlighting the product's negative impact on health, society and the environment. The European Commission also stated in its decision: “The proposal to ban the sale of disposable e-cigarettes containing nicotine is reasonable, necessary and compatible with the objective of protecting public health.”
The bill prohibits the manufacture, sale or free provision of disposable e-cigarettes, and violators will face a fine of 100,000 euros.
