Recently, the legalization of cannabis in Germany has attracted attention, and Austria has strengthened border security measures and strengthened police inspections to deal with the drug problem.

Austria has decided to increase police surveillance on its border with Germany after Berlin decriminalized the possession and use of marijuana, the Associated Press recently reported.

Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner said:

"Police will step up checks, particularly in areas close to the border, to remove drug addicts and drug-impaired drivers from public places."

According to the Interior Ministry, plainclothes police and experts from regional traffic departments will be deployed specifically to identify symptoms caused by the drug.

From April 1 this year, Germany implemented a new law allowing citizens over the age of 18 to possess and use cannabis. The new regulations make it possible for adults to legally possess up to 25 grams of cannabis, as well as grow up to three cannabis trees.

As the next step in legal reform, starting July 1, citizens will be able to legally obtain cannabis through the country's cannabis clubs. These regulated organizations can each have 500 members.
