According to a statement from Imperial Tobacco Canada (ITCAN), the company has launched a public awareness campaign in order to broaden the public’s knowledge about Zonnic nicotine pouches. The company says the goal of the campaign is to dispel misconceptions and provide accurate scientific information about nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and how Zonnic can reduce tobacco use in Canada.
"Our new Zonnic campaign validates claims made about Zonnic nicotine pouches and reflects our commitment to tobacco harm reduction and commitment to helping reduce smoking in Canada," ITCAN President and CEO Frank Silva said in a statement. The company said the anti-tobacco lobby and the federal Department of Health have been making accusations and mischaracterizations of Zonnic since it was launched last October.
"Our goal is very clear; we want to help people who want to quit smoking, whenever they want to," Silva said.
According to him, this starts with releasing new and unique alternatives and ensuring that these products are available to adults while ensuring that minors do not have access to any form of nicotine products, including NRTs. This includes our position that any form of NRT should require proof of age before purchase and be stored at the retailer in a manner that is inaccessible to minors.
Silva said: “We have tried to have a meeting with Minister Holland, our door is always open to him, but he has not returned our calls and we are more than willing to have a fair, fact-based discussion to make NRT accessible to adults. Keeping smokers available and keeping nicotine products out of the hands of teenagers can achieve your department's goals, which we share."
