According to Topmidia News on April 28, Brazilian Senator Soraya Thronicke opposed the resolution of the Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) to maintain the ban on e-cigarettes. The congressman had previously met with global tobacco industry tycoons and advocated for the regulation of such products.
Soraya stressed that the ban would only benefit organized crime and run counter to the principles of most developed countries.
"Anvisa has brought the worst of nicotine consumption to the Brazilian people."
The congressman expressed confusion about Anvisa's unanimous resolution to maintain the ban on e-cigarettes. She wrote in X (Twitter): "We are surprised by this unanimous decision. In Anvisa, all resolutions are unanimous. This is too coincidental." She then posted another post: "Maybe a public investigation can clarify these issues", which aroused public doubts about the fairness of Anvisa's decision. Currently, the congressman is called "Tobacco Muse" ("rainha do tabaco") by local Brazilian media.
Soraya said she welcomes everyone to her office
According to Anvisa, the bans maintained include:
The manufacture, import, sale, distribution, storage, transportation and advertising of all vaping devices, including accessories, parts and additives, continue to be prohibited. The introduction of products into the country by any form of importation, including the carry-on baggage mode, continues to be prohibited. The approved regulations do not achieve a ban on personal use.
