The Malaysian Ministry of Health is expected to fully implement the Public Health Smoking Products Control Act (Act 852) in June this year as a measure to address the increasing use of e-cigarettes among young people.
According to the 2023 Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS), Health Minister Menteri Kesihatan Dzulkefly Ahmad said that the use of electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes among young people is worrying and requires rapid and thorough action.
“The implementation of Bill 852 and its rules and orders, we will implement from June 2024 as a response to the increase in e-cigarettes because in the Smoking Products Control Act, it is also the E-cigarette Control Act. We hope to pass the order and regulations, we can respond to the increase in e-cigarette use among these young people.
He said this at a press conference after the release of the results of the National Health and Morbidity Survey: Non-communicable Diseases and Healthcare Needs 2023 and the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) 2023 on Thursday.
