Hawaii lawmakers want to ban flavored e-cigarettes in 2022

Blue Hole New Consumer Reports, January 22 news, according to foreign reports, the 2022 legislative session in the U.S. state of Hawaii began on Wednesday, kicking off a nearly five-month process that will determine the future of Hawaii. On Tuesday, Hawaiian lawmakers and advocates for the keiki caucus unveiled priorities for the upcoming meeting.


The caucus will introduce nearly 30 bills on issues such as sex trafficking, after-school programs and sex education. The group will also try to ban all flavored vaping products. State Rep. Scot Matayoshi said the bill would also make it harder for teens to buy these products.


"95% of smokers started smoking before age 21, and 81%6 of young adults tried flavored nicotine products as their first tobacco product." Matayohi in a report on Hawaii Public Radio Say. "So these products are really a gateway to nicotine oncology."


"What really struck me was that 31 percent of middle school students had tried e-cigarettes, and that's the age of the students I taught when I was a DOE teacher," he told Hawaii Public Radio. Matayoshi acknowledged that past efforts to ban flavored tobacco products had not had the desired effect, but said he was hopeful for this year.
