E-cigarettes will help Malaysia reduce smoking population to 4 million by 2025.

Malaysians doubt the effectiveness of banning the sale of tobacco and vaping products to people born after 2005, according to an investigation by the Retail Trade Brand Advocacy (RTBA) Malaysia branch, which was communicated by the New Straits Times on February 14.

In January, Khairy Jamaluddin, Malaysia's health minister, said he smoked. New Zealand announced a similar policy in December.

Eighty-five percent of RTBA respondents said the ban would be ineffective and would create a black market for cigarettes and vaping products. They also said the ban would be difficult to enforce and ultimately affect Malaysian laws and local businesses.

Fazlindin, managing director of RTBA Malaysia, said: Banning is not the solution. . For example, vaping products containing nicotine are banned from the market. However, consumers still demand vaping products that contain nicotine. Worst of all is the tobacco black market. Due to the huge price gap between legal and illegal products, Malaysia has the highest level of illegal cigarettes in the world.

Nearly 1,200 Malaysians took part in the survey of RTBA Malaysia, an NGO that protects businesses from crime.

Fazli said that while Malaysia's plans were inspired by New Zealand, they differed in that New Zealand did not plan to ban vaping products.

"Instead, the country promotes e-cigarettes as a less harmful alternative and encourages New Zealanders to switch from traditional cigarettes to traditional cigarettes," he said.

A recent study suggests that encouraging smokers to use e-cigarettes as a less harmful alternative will help Malaysia reduce the number of smokers to 4 million by 2025.

The report estimates that the strategy will help the country save 1.3 billion ringgit ($310.21 million) in the cost of treating smoking-related diseases in 2025.
