Data from Big Daddy Vapes, one of London's largest e-cigarette stores, shows that women in their 80s prefer fruity flavours.
Big Daddy Vapes are tucked away in trendy Hoxton Square. A boutique and popular store, one of the highest rated stores in the city, with a 4.9/5 rating on Google.
mylondon reporter and 25-year-old entrepreneur and shop owner Araz sits down at his new kebab shop, next to his vape shop. Talked about everything from building his business to suffering from the cost of living crisis and how vaping helped him quit smoking.
Araz was born in the UK but from Turkish parents who moved to London in the 1990s. "Born and raised in Tottenham...but I'm still an Arsenal fan," he joked.
Araz said he dropped out of school at 17 and decided to open a mobile phone repair shop. "I just taught myself on YouTube and it went well. But I started selling vaping there and saw it was really popular, so I opened my own vape shop."
The Big Daddy Vape store was born in 2017.
When asked if Araz's clients were just young people, he said: "18-70. I have a group of clients, one around 80, her daughter around 55, and a group of old lady friendships. They all come to the store. They are good customers to buy e-cigarettes here.”
"They hate tobacco!" he added, telling me that older aunties now like fruit flavors.
The UK is going through a cost of living crisis, an economic issue that affects all industries, including the vaping business.
On whether Araz felt the impact, he said: Of course, yes. People are more cautious about their spending, customers used to want to come in and buy the best quality e-cigarettes, but now they are open to deals, discounts and clearance products.
The NHS recommends vaping is less harmful than smoking because you are consuming fewer toxins, namely tobacco and carbon monoxide.
"I'm not going to sit here and say vaping is good for you," Araz said. "But as a former smoker, it's very different. When I smoked, I used to wake up with a bad throat, a headache, and I used to hate the smell of smoke. But since I started vaping, it's all It's all stopped."
Now, he goes on, if anything, I smell like grapes.
In making sure it remains a safer option, the Bid Daddy Vapes boss also explained that counterfeit products are sometimes sold off-license, and vaping should only be sold in stores that research the product and understand the quality of the product being sold.
