The US state of Maine is enforcing a series of flavor bans. In a unanimous vote by the town council, Bar Harbor became the fifth town in the United States to ban flavored tobacco products.
Portland, South Portland, Brunswick and Bangor also voted for a similar ban.
Effective June 1, 2023, the new Bar Harbor regulations will stop the sale of tobacco products with flavors associated with fruit, menthol, peppermint, wintergreen, chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, honey or any candy, dessert, alcoholic beverage, herb or flavor .
Legislation creating a statewide ban has been introduced in Augusta and is expected to be discussed in this session.
