The Vietnamese government recently approved a tobacco control plan, which plans to reduce the smoking rate of men to less than 39%, the smoking rate of women to less than 1.4%, and the passive smoking rate in the workplace to less than 30% between 2023 and 2025.
Currently, Vietnam is among the 15 countries with the highest smoking rates among male adults. The Vietnamese government will gradually increase taxes on tobacco products and regulate the minimum sales price of tobacco products. They also plan to issue regulations on e-cigarettes, heated cigarettes, hookahs and other novel tobacco products.
