On July 25, according to fed.az reports, the Azerbaijani government is requiring all e-cigarettes to be marked with potential health risks in Azerbaijani language on the packaging to comply with current regulations. This move is to protect the rights and health of consumers and ensure that people get the necessary information.
The Antitrust and Consumer Market Regulatory Agency (Antiinhisar və İstehlak Bazarına Nəzarət Dövlət Xidməti), which is attached to the country’s economic sector, received a complaint about the lack of important information in Azerbaijani language on the packaging of e-cigarettes.
According to the Consumer Protection Law of Azerbaijan, retailers (producers) must provide consumers with necessary and accurate information about the characteristics of the goods they sell, conditions of purchase, methods of use, storage and safe use of goods. According to Article 13, paragraph 1, of the law, this includes providing consumers with the necessary and accurate information on the characteristics of use of goods, conditions of acquisition, methods and rules for the use, storage and safe use of goods.
Translations from other languages into Labels and descriptions of trade names in Azerbaijani must be juxtaposed with other languages.
Additionally, under the Restriction of Use of Tobacco Products Act, all smokers and e-cigarettes are restricted by law in the same way as tobacco products. According to Article 14.3.4 of the Law on Tobacco and Tobacco Products, all imported tobacco products, including disposable e-cigarettes, must have warning messages in Azerbaijani language on their packages informing the public about their harmful effects on health .
