British e-cigarette policy

Experts say that to eradicate e-cigarette use by young people only needs to copy British policies

On July 16th, Dave Morris, the vice chairman of the American Smoke-Free Alternatives Trade Association, wrote an article that if you want to eradicate e-cigarettes among young people, you only need to copy British practices. The following is the full text:

In 2006, Matt Myers, chairman of the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, said that my challenge is not to eliminate smoking, but to death and disease caused by smoking. If your product makes 45 million people addicted, but no one stops them, you should go for coffee.

Since that infamous quote, e-cigarettes have proven themselves to be what he calls miracles, and scientific research shows that they are at least 95% safer than smoking. It has now been proven that e-cigarettes are more than six times more effective in helping smokers quit smoking than government-approved methods. This raises a question: Why do our public health organizations and politicians not accept e-cigarettes?

Unfortunately, anti-e-cigarette lobbyists have changed their attitudes and are now lobbying to ban products that they once accurately compared to coffee. Although adolescent e-cigarette smoking fell by 33% last year, which is the second year of a double-digit decline, these so-called public health advocates are still seeking to force more than 9 million adult e-cigarette users to smoke again, which will inevitably kill Two-thirds of them died.

But we don’t have to rely on statistical analysis to confirm that banning flavored e-cigarette products will have terrible consequences. We only need to look at other states that have made this mistake.

Massachusetts banned flavored e-cigarette products in 2020, and a thriving black market immediately appeared. Black markets have also appeared in New York and New Jersey. These examples confirm the results of the recent Ecig Intelligence report, which showed that 68% of e-cigarette users across the country intend to continue using flavored products, even if they are banned.

Based on these figures, we can estimate that the federal ban on flavored e-cigarette products will result in a black market of 6,120,000 customers, creating $12,729,600,000 for organized criminals each year.

On the contrary, we can also look at the success of other governments in curbing youth e-cigarettes. The UK follows science and publicly supports e-cigarettes as the preferred method of helping smokers quit smoking. In the UK, only 1.8% of teenagers use e-cigarettes once a week or more, and only 2.1% of teenagers think e-cigarettes are cool.

The UK has discussed the issue of e-cigarettes with adults and minors in a mature way, and has achieved great success. It even invited e-cigarette shops to open in hospitals, calling them a public health necessity.

Because of this, children in the UK do not think e-cigarettes are a form of resistance to authority, and the UK has not seen an increase in the use of low-risk tobacco products related to improved education by young people.

As the numbers show, there is a clear way to reduce the number of minors using steam products, and this happens to be the most effective way for adult smokers to quit the deadly habit: now is the time for our government to take action. Being honest with e-cigarettes allows us to make the right decisions for our lives.
