According to STV news on October 12, the e-cigarette brand ELFBAR has cooperated with the Scottish Grocers Federation (SGF) to provide 1,000 free e-cigarette recycling boxes to the stores of members of the trade group starting from mid-October, aiming to solve the problem caused by one-time Environmental problems caused by e-cigarette waste.
Many retailers and points of sale in Scotland already offer free recycling services for used e-cigarettes, and organizers note that the campaign will "significantly increase" the scale of recycling activities. According to estimates from Zero Waste Scotland, up to 26 million disposable e-cigarettes need to be disposed of in Scotland every year, of which 10% are discarded carelessly and more than half of e-cigarettes are not disposed of correctly.
Dr Pete Cheema, chief executive of the Scottish Grocers Federation, said:
“SGF welcomes cooperation with ELFBAR to help retailers make their best efforts to reduce the environmental damage of disposable e-cigarettes. We will join hands with ELFBAR to provide retailers with 1,000 free in-store e-cigarette recycling bins, which is important This step will further provide a convenient option for the waste disposal and recycling of e-cigarette products."
